Dealing with Density

3:30p | Piper Auditorium
Moderator: Lynn Fisher, Associate Professor of Real Estate, MIT DUSP and Center for Real Estate

How does density impact housing costs, local politics, environmental sustainability, municipal services, urban design, and even our health? What are our hopes and doubts surrounding density, and how do we find the “right” degree of density for the places we love? Lynn Fisher, an expert in real estate development and regulation, will lead a discussion of these and other issues with experts from the fields of public health, urban planning and design, real estate development, and local government. This multi- disciplinary panel will discuss how density factors into the financial and programmatic decisions of developers; how density can be used to promote environmental sustainability and healthy living conditions; and panelists will share examples of dense, innovative projects that communities and neighbors support.

Panelists
Marc Draisen, Executive Director, Metro Area Planning Council
David Dixon, Principal-in-Charge of Planning and Urban Design, Goody Clancy
Russ Lopez, Assistant Professor, Boston University School of Public Health
